If you know us, you know we live for a good mountain view. But every once in a while, it’s nice to trade our snow boots for some Florida sunshine! This January, we packed our gear and traded the frosty Wasatch peaks for the mossy oaks of Lakeland, Florida. We were there to document Star and Joel’s big day, and let’s just say, the Sunshine State did not disappoint.
The ceremony took place in a “little church” that looked like it was plucked straight out of a classic film. Tucked away in the heart of Lakeland, this gem overlooked rolling meadows that seemed to stretch on forever.
While we’re used to the dramatic, jagged silhouettes of a Utah wedding, there is something so incredibly peaceful about the Florida backcountry. In January, the weather was—dare we say—perfection? It was that crisp, pleasant breeze that makes you forget winter is actually happening elsewhere. The church’s simple, timeless architecture was the perfect frame for the wide-open landscape outside.
The stars of the show (pun absolutely intended!) were Star and Joel. Star was the definition of “classic bride” in a white dress that was so elegant, it practically gave the church’s historic architecture a run for its money. Joel was right there with her, looking sharp and matching that timeless energy perfectly.
Capturing them against the backdrop of the meadows was a total dream. As Utah wedding videographers, we’re usually hunting for the best light behind a canyon wall, but in Lakeland, the light just rolls over the grass in this soft, golden glow that we couldn’t get enough of.
One of our favorite things about being Utah wedding photographers is the “destination” part of our job. We love our home base, but there’s a certain spark that comes from dropping into a brand-new landscape. Whether we’re dodging snowballs in Sandy, UT, or soaking up the meadow views in Lakeland, FL, we’re always ready to chase the light.
Seeing how Star and Joel’s style played off the Florida scenery was such a treat. It turns out, “timeless elegance” translates perfectly into every dialect—even Floridian!
Whether you’re getting married in a mountain cathedral or a little church in the meadows, we’re ready to hop on a plane (and we promise to leave the Utah snow behind). Star and Joel’s day was a beautiful reminder that a stunning couple and a great view are the only two things you really need.
